Behind the world of I SPEAK MACHINE with Tara Busch & Maf Lewis

Tara Contributes to “Test Signals” – A glorious, Radiophonic-inspired new project from Tim Love Lee & Tummy Touch

From the lovely, brilliant Tim Love Lee and groundbreaking label Tummy Touch, comes a gorgeous, super-limited edition new release, “Test Signals”. You likely know Tummy Touch quite well in the first place, but they are also the label that released our Pilfershire Lane box set and CD release in 2009.

Here is a quick taster of the beauty that is Test Signals on Soundcloud:

I’ve caught up with Tim to elaborate further on the concept behind “Test Signals”:

Can you describe the history behind the concept of Test Signals and what inspired you to create it?
Tim Love Lee: I’ve always had a thing for those old “stereo test” albums with their awesome graphic representations of the audio spectrum, and some of them get pretty close to being straight up avant garde electronic music. This little project grew out of that and a chance encounter with the history of the BBC’s broadcasting technologies I found on the web. I approached some of my favourite sonic artists and was lucky enough to have them all agree to get involved ! I sent everybody a basic sequenced bed track and they sent back improvisations which I edited to create “Quad Output Singularity”. My original sequence is all the Macbeth Studio Systems M5 but I guess I was most excited about Jack Dangers using the Roland System 100 modular that used to belong to The Human League !

And more from Tummy Touch:
On the week of Aug 28th 1962, exactly 50 years ago, the BBC started regular stereo FM radio broadcasts. To celebrate this sonic milestone Tim “love” Lee has teamed up with fellow aural adventurers Tara Busch, Jack Dangers and Si Begg to bring you “Test Signals” – four sonic sketches of imagined test procedures and one glorious radiophonic collaboration between London, NYC, San Francisco and Los Angeles. A true testament to the golden age of experimental broadcasting.

The 7″ vinyl EP is strictly limited to 150 copies and comes with a full colour sleeve and a digital download of the “Against Remixes” album by Tim Love Lee featuring mixes by Jack Dangers, Sonic Boom, Depth Charge, Kirk Degiorgio and others.
