“Talk – I Speak Machine Remix” by Tara Busch…My Recipe, if you please…
Released September 24th and available for your hot little hands now, is the new album by John Foxx & The Maths, “Evidence”. I mentioned it previously here – featuring collaborations with wonderful artists such as Gazelle Twin, Matthew Dear and The Soft Moon….My remix of the song “Talk” is a bonus track to end the album.
It was a treat to create this remix – John is the first male artist I have remixed! It features a dark, sinister, bone-chilling spoken word vocal by John…it really thrilled me as I’m a big fan of his lyrics and voice – and the stems Benge & John provided featured Benge’s famous 1967 Moog Modular 3C & Paia Modular…
John’s vocal was slightly warped using flex time and effected a bit with Izotope’s Nectar plug in and the “one I can’t live without”, the UAD Roland Dimension D. Certainly gives a spoken vocal that late 70′s dystopian narrator feel, you know?
I also heavily flexed the Moog modular line, but I feel it still kept it’s menacing quality. Lastly, I couldn’t resist juxtaposing John’s vocal with a few prozac-drenched, gooey, 1940′s Disney style backing vocals and creepy little nymph whispers here & there.
My Farfisa made an unexpected appearance through my beloved Moogerfooger Clusterflux - perhaps you can spot it…I never know what stems I’ll wind up using for a remix, but I was totally enticed to utilize the ones Benge gave me. Gorgeous sonic clay to reinterpret a little. I also used the LM1 kit in Native Instruments Battery 3 – I feel it was a nice thread to Benge’s real LM1 that we used on this track last year.

Anyway, Here it is! have a listen here and buy the album here.

You weren’t kidding when you said “dark, sinister” were you?
Nice remix.
Love John’s vocal – it is very dark! Great all on its own too.
v. enjoyable/stimulating remix. Also: as well Evidence, I purchased Pilfershire Lane this past month – which (as you know) is exquisite and today was pointed to Laurie Spiegel’s The Expanding Universe by a tweet of yours. Thankyou v. v. much Tara
B. for all the music!!!
cheers, Zach
