John Foxx & The Maths Rock the Troxy! London Love…

The following Monday morning ramble is a little “pre-post” about the Back to the Phuture show we attended in London this weekend with Gary Numan, John Foxx and the Maths, Motor and Daniel Miller. Maf is at this moment editing lovely footage for you all to enjoy; but for now let me share the preliminary fun….

Me after the show with John Foxx

Maf & I awoke at the spark of dawn Saturday morning to catch the train from Cardiff Central to London Paddington. Train journeys are something I truly enjoy, as it is such a wonderland for listening to an album for the first time properly, all the way through. In this case, I curled up in my seat and popped on John Foxx and the Maths’ “Interplay” - and thus unfolded a beautiful, warm blanket of authentic electronic goodness. ‘Evergreen’ has to be the most perfect song for watching the British countryside whip past, beautiful meadows and stoic farmhouses blurring at warp speed.

After a healthy wander around Covent Garden & a long linger at Monmouth Coffee, the day slid into night and we were on our way to the Troxy. Maf quickly made off with his camera to the front, just as a big curtain of sonic fabulousness in the form of ‘Running Man’ drenched us in synthtastic goodness. Here are a few pics from my vantage point at the front (note for fun: Photos are typically Maf’s territory, but I couldn’t help myself):

John Foxx & Benge at the Troxy

Onstage, there was a juicy armada of beautiful machines in full glory – ARP Omni and Oddessey, Yamaha CS5, Juno 60 made appearances as well as plenty of other machines that I couldnt quite spot from where I was…nonetheless fantastic.
We fortunately spent a short while afterward chatting with John Foxx about everything from California to CR 78′s & Moogerfoogers - post show can be a bit of a blur, but I luckily managed to say hi to John’s collaborator Benge as well.
I also caught a glimpse of Mute legend Daniel Miller back stage just before he (I recognized him from this now-classic Synth Britannia clip) treated us to a wicked array of sweetly mangled electronica ( including a ‘cover’ of “Do ya Think I’m Sexy” which rang a bell, but I could not place the artist…rats!)…..talk about a night to make the ears pleased and happily tweaked!

And I must add this juicy aside: On the train journey back, Maf managed to seal the weekend by torturing me with this lovely Matrixsynth bulletin. Isnt love grand?

Lusting over the 808 on Matrixsynth....

So, there! Back to realigning the machines for the week’s activities on this sweet Cardiff morning  – We’ll have more Back to the Phuture nutrition for you soon!
