Bat For Lashes – “Daniel” Tara Busch’s AnalogSuicide Remix! Free Download at Batforlashes.com!!

Bat For Lashes’ (A.K.A Natasha Kahn) dreamy, dark soundscapes first graced my ears in mid 2007, when I supported her playing at Spaceland in Los Angeles. Since then, I’ve become more & more enamoured with her work. In saying this, I was ecstatic when I was approached by them to concoct a remix for her stellar tune from her new album “Two Suns“, Daniel.

The Remix Recipe:

Armed with a delicious arsenal of stems from Natasha including Linn Drums, an SCI Prophet 5 & a tear-soaked lead vocal to die for, I set about with the intention to create a remix that would showcase the childlike, deeply emotional characteristics of the lead vocal whilst creating a bed of sonic swoops, ferocious fuzz and sweet blips and bleeps for the vocal to travel in. Backing vocals and select bits of the lead vocal were lovingly run through a Moogerfooger 102 & 104Z to create an “unsettling” contrast to the sweet lead vocal, and my trusty Pro One was employed to create a snarling, demonic lead synth line. My Farfisa Compact Deluxe and Mellotron MKII strings and flutes held the fairy-like quality intact . Finally, after much tweaking, stirring, seasoning and singing, “Tara Busch’s AnalogSuicide Mix” was born.

The Documentary:

All the while, Maf Lewis documented on film the whole process from beginning to end in a 9 Part Series – “The Making of Bat For Lashes – Daniel – Tara Busch’s AnalogSuicide Mix . Maf’s splendid series documents the whole process: the creation of Pro One tweaks & shrieks, chasing a rainstorm for a good field recording, writing & recording backing vocals, and my favorite – processing Natasha’s vocal through the MF 102.

The Goods:

So here they are:links to the goods and a peek at Part 1 & 2 & 6 of Maf’s new documentary! Find the rest here on our YouTube channel!

  2. I love it!

More than a mix, it’s some sort of remake. Like Postal Service’s ‘mix’ from Feist’s Mushaboom.

    Congratulations

  3. Nice – even better having watched the docu.

BTW, EMI needs to learn how to spell your surname (they ‘Bushed’ it in the URL).

  5. Thanks Everyone!!! So thankful for the kind words. Her voice is one of a kind – and she posesses such an amazing, abstract sense of melody.

Sw00p – The "Busch" should be repaired soon, too : )

Yeah, I’m really reeeally proud of the docus! Fun to make & watch. : )

  6. Just WOW! I had no idea this was on it’s way – and it’s absolutely Superb.

Have loved Bat For Lashes ever since I heard them when they had the Mercury nomination. Whilst i’m personally slightly gutted it’s not got the Casio on it ;) I have to say – the production is something else!

Unique and fantastic : You rock :D Props to Maf too – just settling down with a nice cuppa tea and watching the documentary. It’s geek heaven seeing you in the studio at work 8)
