Divine Dewanatron Electronic Music Instruments....
Masterminded by Brian and Leon Dewan, Dewanatron Electronic Music Instruments are some of the most unique and beautifully crafted machines I've come across! Sent my way via Tim Love Lee and also on Matrix Synth, their website is astounding, featuring creations ranging from the prototype Folk Synthesizer, "The Alphatron" to the "Dual Primate Console", the latter being quite reminiscant of a machine Raymond Scott may have dreamt up...listen here. (guess what: Brian Dewan is a member of the Raymond Scott Orchestrette!!).
(photo via dewanatron.com) There is also a gorgeous series of what are known as "Melody Gins", that, according to the site, are " a quartet of oscillators, each of which can influence the other and create idiosyncratic contours, yielding melody and rhythm. The up and down patterns of varying degrees of influence act upon external oscillators, determining their song. The controlling quartet not only mills a melodic contour but also shifts modulation patterns and creates asymmetrical rhythmic shapes."
Here is a beautiful clip via leondewan on You Tube of Brian and himself with their creations at Manhattan Neighborhood Network studios in April 2005...Note that Brian also created the moving backgrounds...
And I couldnt resist posting the coin operated Melody Gin! Via uberdionysus on You Tube.
