Just returned from a long-ish stint at my parent’s house in the semi-remote country in North Carolina. Drenched in rural glory, cornfields, bullfrogs, fireflies and “cow moo-tels”, it was a good pause from the compression that living in LA can bring, and I got to visit my (rather enormous) family. I also managed a quick visit with ISM collaborator Tommy Lee Edwards (have I filled you in on that yet? I will soon.) and banged around some lovely ideas for upcoming weirdness.
Also managed to set up my super small setup (laptop and elderly MOTU Traveler soundcard – I SO need to decide on a new interface) on the dining room table and rework a load of songs for I Speak Machine on my sister’s beautiful upright piano…an interesting quest as all these songs were written on synths, sometimes centered around happy accidents on an Oberheim sequencer or a floopy blippy bloopy gob of totally fucked up weirdness with my longtime love, the Pro One ( which is more or less surgically attached to the Moogerfooger Clusterflux). SO – removed from the machines, it was nice to center my attention on the songs instead of “production”; the piano is a long lost love of mine better suited for coaxing vocal arrangements out of my head than shredding like Tori Amos, but it’s still the one creature that really stirs some odd stuff out of me as well.
So, I’m working on a few new movements for the I Speak Machine project (which is also my new “band name, in case you weren’t sure:), which I can say are a bit out there – but maybe a bit of this recent release in its veins too. I’ll try to pop some stuff up here on occasion, clips and goodness, teasers like this:
Sorry to be vague, but more will reveal as we progress – it is all radically different from the original project I played live last year – and I’m excited. Till next time…
