I just remembered, I mentioned on Twitter that I would go into a wee bit of detail about how I made this song. I’m always forever & ever interested in how we all create, so hopefully you’ll find this fun.
Well, it’s nothing crazily complex, but it is my own special brew (honestly, nothing I do is very complex, just ‘textured’). In 2012, as you may have read, I was commissioned by PRS here in the UK to create an electronic music symphony and also build a machine of my own for the project to be performed at Sensoria Festival in Sheffield. That ‘symphony’ is what I now refer to to be the early version of I Speak Machine, which is now being reworked with Tommy Lee Edwards & Maf Lewis. & me. The project is evolving as we speak…
BUT anyway – The “prototype” version of I Speak Machine contains about 40 minutes of compositions…part of which is this song, Dirty Soul.
Recipe is easy: Omnichord OM27’s drums (which I chopped up) through a Moogerfooger (of course) ring modulator and 12 stage phaser…other programmed drums are Battery 4 and my voice is also run through the ring mod in the classing “dalek setting” slightly tweaking the frequency during the chorus. I think I also popped the juicy Izotope Ozone on at the end ( at that time, it must’ve been Ozone 4).
Soo – download it here! Let me know if you want to hear the whole “prototype” of I Speak Machine, I may get over myself and plug it up for you. But till then, here ya go:
